The ball pressure test is made on plastic materials to check their resistance to heat. 

The test specimen is placed in an oven a weight 

with a ball-shaped tip is placed onto the test specimen. 

If the test specimen becomes soft, the ball will make a dent.

By measuring the diameter of this dent, the heat resistance of the material can be classified.
